Craft Onsen: Bringing Japan’s Hot Spring Healing to Modern Wellness Tech

Japanese startup Le Furo has created a groundbreaking “Craft Onsen” mineral concentrate, capturing and replicating hot spring benefits in portable form—unlocking thermal therapy benefits like stress relief and skin renewal anywhere.

Japan is reimagining traditional onsen culture for the digital age. Le Furo, founded by Naoki Mita, has developed a technology that extracts and concentrates the mineral properties of geothermal hot springs—up to 10,000 times—and packages them for use in spas and baths globally. This concentrate, branded “Craft Onsen,” allows users to recreate authentic onsen experiences—with minerals like iron, zinc, and magnesium known to support stress reduction, skin rejuvenation, and pain relief. Its production mimics a coffee machine’s operation, blending natural stones under controlled pressure, temperature, and pH to generate a high-density, portable form of hot spring water. Le Furo aims to expand internationally, adapting the experience in locations such as Saudi Arabia via spa-style steam baths—making Japan’s geothermal remedy a scalable, wellness export.
